The East African Children Schooling Program
#

Project Description:

Through volunteers helping in pre & secondary schools comes the aid with the educational process which is a necessary foundation for building a strong educated community. The students' age is normally anywhere between 3 to 9; boys and girls. The help comes through volunteers who donate their time teaching kids, or others who assist building better schooling facilities.

Educational organizations, or others, are welcome to volunteer by donating equipment and/or funds towards building new classrooms, facilities and purchasing books/supplies necessary for the educational programmes.

The schools are projects per se and needs an organization that focuses on: “seeking sustainable solutions to poverty, hunger, illiteracy and ill-health with special emphasis on the needs of resource-poor areas.” Volunteers may not what one would call "experienced" teachers, but one would have passion and enthusiasm to create a simple curriculum for the kids; one that can incorporated into the mainstream American nursery rhymes like "The Itsy Bity Spider" and "Three Blind Mice" into it.

We ask libraries to donate as many books as possible, reams of colorful paper and crayons, that can be set off to East Africa. We wanted to go behind the scenes and learn about the East African education system, to physically immerse ourselves into these school communities, and to soak in the distinct culture and atmosphere of these countries.

Do Something! Get Involved!

Go with a companion or on your own with a set mission to help. Get a grant to work somewhere beyond your country's borders, keep a journal and document how you felt before and after you left, become a more informed and aware person!
