In an effort to release some burden on the healthcare process in third world countries and in line with its mission statement the East Africa Aid Foundation has engaged in a program to provide medical and surgical supplies to hospitals worldwide that are in need of the items to help their underprivileged patient population.
The process entails gathering the “surplus” of medical and surgical supplies from North American Hospitals and be able to collect enough needed items to ship to various hospitals depending on the need of every location. Countries where the foundation operates today are Egypt, Ghana, Gambia, Tanzania and Uganda with the hope to expand operations into other underserved populations. |

Working with partner hospitals at various locations worldwide the US-based volunteers have been able to gather a number of medical supplies beneficial for all the medical centers in the countries mentioned.
Medical supplies would vary from “basic” supplies as wound dressing, gauze, sterile surgical gloves, and sutures to other “non basic” surgical items frequently used in theatres such as catheters, guide-wires and a other surgical kits or trays frequently used for cardio or general surgery.
In the year 2012 the foundation and its volunteers have been able to collect in excess of 2 metric tons by weight of medical supplies and medical equipment that have been dispersed worldwide via its shipping partners. Shipping the items and delivering them to the country of destination is a costly endeavor especially if air freight is the method of transport of these items (and typically it is) since many items would suffer spoilage from the elongated sea freight trips. |
